A note on the dynamic dominant resource fairness mechanism

چکیده
Dynamic multi-resource fair allocation has been a hot topic for fair division. Most recently, Kash, Procaccia and Shah (Journal of Articial Intelligence Research 51: 579-603, 2014) proposed a dynamic dominant resource fairness (DRF) mechanism, and designed a water-filling algorithm to find a dynamic DRF solution. However, the running time of water-filling algorithm is pseudo-polynomial. In this paper, we develop a lineartime algorithm to find a dynamic DRF solution. Moreover, we prove that the competitive ratio of the dynamic DRFmechanism is nearly the number of resources, when the objective is to maximize the minimum dominant share. This is nearly best possible for the dynamic fair mechanisms satisfying dynamic Pareto optimality.

A New Fairness Index and Novel Approach for QoS-Aware Resource Allocation in LTE Networks Based on Utility Functions
Resource allocation techniques have recently appeared as a widely recognized feature in LTE networks. Most of existing approaches in resource allocation focus on maximizing network’s utility functions. The great potential of utility function in improving resource allocation and enhancing fairness and mean opinion score (MOS) indexes has attracted large efforts over the last few years. In this p...
متن کاملDesigning of Supply Chain Coordination Mechanism with Leadership Considering (RESEARCH NOTE)
Abstract Vertical cooperative (co-op) advertising is typically a cost sharing mechanism and coordinated effort by the channel’s members in order to increase demand and overall profits. In this marketing strategy, the manufacturer shares a fraction of the retailer’s advertising investment. This paper studies the advertising and pricing decisions in a retailer-manufacturer supply chain in which...
متن کاملAn Efficient and Fair Multi-Resource Allocation Mechanism for Heterogeneous Servers
Efficient and fair allocation of multiple types of resources is a crucial objective in a cloud/distributed computing cluster. Users may have diverse resource needs. Furthermore, diversity in server properties/capabilities may mean that only a subset of servers may be usable by a given user. In platforms with such heterogeneity, we identify important limitations in existing multi-resource fair a...
متن کاملDetermination of Resonance Frequency of Dominant and Higher Order Modes in Thin and Thick Circular Microstrip Patch Antennas with Superstrate by MWM (RESEARCH NOTE)
An accurate model named as the Modified Wolff Model (MWM) is presented as an efficient CAD tool for determination of resonant frequency of the dominant and higher order modes under the multi-layer condition in thin and thick circular microstrip patch antennas. The effects of dielectric cover on the resonant frequency obtained from MWM have been compared against the result of theoretical method ...
متن کاملFair scheduling of multiple resource types over multiple and heterogeneous resource pools ∗
We consider the problem of scheduling a group of heterogeneous, distributed processes to a group of heterogeneous resource pools (physical servers, clusters of processors/cores) each with different types of resources. The processes specify their preference-constraints [20] and linearly elastic resource needs for heterogeneous resource pools. Our setting is a neutral, public cloud datacenter [6]...
